How many chronographs does a person need? As far as I was concerned, I only needed one, my Breitling B09 Premier with the Pistachio dial. It was a bicompax, vintage looking and had a unique dial color. After my ordeal with chronographs over the course of my collecting journey, I thought I had found the one and done when I picked up the Breitling Premier. How very wrong I was.
When my watch group started talking about this brand called Gallet, my first impression was "yet another brand being resurrected". The watch in the picture - the tribute to Silverlight - was the one that was being discussed. I'll admit that my curiosity was piqued and when an opportunity came to see it at the AD, I went to take a look. The Silverlight wasn't there, but I got to try on the other pieces like the Flying Officer and the Tribute to Yachting Big Eye. While those watches were great, they both didn't sit well on my six-inch wrist, either due to the long lug-to-lug or flat lugs (the bane of my existence with vintage cases).
I did eventually get to try on the Silverlight at the Breitling Valley Fair boutique and I fell in love with it instantly. Being a sucker for numerals on dials, this was unlike anything I had seen on any other watch thus far. The black numerals against the silver dial made it extremely legible, which is what you'd want in an everyday piece. The downturn of the case was perfect for my wrist shape, and the strap was soft and didn't require any breaking in (unlike the stock strap on my Breitling). Another plus for me was that all their straps are quick release and use straight spring bars, which meant I could use my existing 20mm straps to pair with it for different looks. Or at least, that's how I justified it to myself at any rate. So much for not buying another watch, huh?
